I've heard that in the old days, script writers were English majors. Nowadays, communications majors write the scripts.
Perhaps that shows a greater emphasis on the media itself rather than the content of the media. In other words, writers now tend to be navel-gazers.
It really is true wat you see on MadMen - back in the '50s and '60s, everybody smoked ALL THE TIME!!
"The Obsolete Man" and others can be viewed on the CBS site (at least in the US).
I have the first three seasons on DVD, and while there are gems (my favorite is "The Midnight Sun", which you linked earlier -- the paintings were done in wax), they do vary in quality quite a bit. Some are quite absurd.
