Balance

I always laugh when leftists talk about how we have to be "balanced".

Well, the Spanish government is run by a particularly foul and juvenile pack of southpaw cretins and the latest news sounds a lot like the kind of "balance" they mean.

The Zapatero régime in Spain continues to pour salt remorselessly into the wounds of the Civil War. It has removed all statues of Franco and renamed streets commemorating Nationalists, in honour of Red murderers. Yesterday the last statue of Franco on mainland Spain was removed from the town square of Santander, though one survives in Tenerife, fiercely defended by locals.

I have to say, I really am just getting a little fed up with people telling me who I can and cannot like.

So, in the interests of "balance" I think I have a whim to begin all my posts this week, until, say, Christmas eve, with a photo of an important historical figure that has been vilified...dare we say "demonized" by the left.

I'm accepting nominations in the chatterbox.

Dear Hilary,

The Generalisimo did well to save Spain from the communists, socialists, anarchists, and all of the other loathsome breed of "-ists". But he also did do a lot of terrible things. There is an excellent series of novels by Jose' Maria Gironella on this subject; the main characters are fictional, but the history of the Civil War is extremely well researched.

The prize should go to Pope Pius XII. We all know that he did save hundreds of thousands of innocent people from a lot of horror and evil. He has been savagely and knowingly calumniated by very bad people, in no small part to justify the overthrow of "the old Church", thitherto known as "Catholicism", and justify the establishment of the "the new Church" also known as "Novusordoism" which isn't.....
All the best
Gregory

Cortez... according to all the new school texts in America he oppressed and murdered innocent enlightened peace loving Native Americans so he could steal their gold, after which he eradicated their indigenous religion via forced conversions to the Catholic Church.

Oh, and of course Columbus too, because he gave the tribes he met smallpox on purpose.

Franco-worship is creepy. The man starved children on purpose. He *also* acted to punish enemies of the Church, which along with the prayers of the faithful I hope will help save his soul. He was just a regular cruel tyrant who happened to be Catholic. He doesn't deserve to be celebrated or demonized. - Karen
