Wait... a wetland inside a volcano's caldera (would that qualify as a "Fire Swamp?) with, ah, rodents of unusual size????

So Neandarthals had bigger brains. I see big dogs with big heads, small dogs with small heads. And people with virtually no brains (due to encephalopathy) continue as professors etc. (Look up Sir John Lorber) And paramecia, one-celled have memory and can be taught simple tricks.

A brain is not a soul. And brains do not really make one smart.
