No, it is most certainly NOT St Peter's. Notice absence of Sistine chapel and surrounding buildings. And the hill behind it? And the huge trees to the left?

Indeed, This is St. Peter's Square. For more context, consider a telephoto image from further-off, e.g. this one.
This picture *is* St. Peter's (or clearly lifted). But it's not a photograph, and, as you say, the context isn't accurate; but the thing itself... !
