The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, came to visit the pope this week.
Just discovered he is a devoted fan of English hard rock, listing Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin as his favorite bands.
and don't forget, he grew up in the Soviet Union.

All that stuff circulated secretly in Russia during Soviet times, so I wouldn't be surprised if Medvedev got into English rock during his youth... I can't imagine that old apparatchik Putin did the same, but who knows.
Surely the word you had in mind was "progressive"?
Yeah, hard to picture Putin listening to the same. The way he overcompensates by ostentatious displays of manliness, I'd imagine Vlad was a big glam band freak.
Agree also with the circulation of hard rock in the Soviet Union. Samizdat helped a lot. When the Scorpions did their tour of Soviet Russia in 1989, they had overflow crowds who knew their stuff by heart.
