Just for the record

I wish everyone would shut the hell up about effing Mothers' Day.

I don't have one, indeed, haven't had one since I was 15, and now am absolutely certainly never going to be one, so Mother's Day can go jump as far as I'm concerned.

I suppose this makes me Evil.

Thank God I don't have a TV. Facebook is bad enough.

If that makes someone evil, I'm not sure I want to be good. I apologize on behalf of American consumer-culture, which has given these Hallmark holidays so much attention.

Apropos of nothing, and I don't know if this will cheer you up or not, but...a suspicion has been floating in the back of my head for some time now, and finally today it hardened into the following concrete thought: Miss White is right. Protestantism causes brain rot.

You are also right about many other things, but I agreed with you in them already.

Also, you should definitely go leave comments at random blogs telling people how mean and horrible they are and what they should do with their leisure time, because this is an effective way to feel better about oneself. - Karen

If you really want to get into a lather, then try visiting your local Walmart about a month before the actual event. p.s. see you in June (you can hit me then).

In a culture that celebrates the death of children as a "constitutional right," Mother's Day becomes downright perverse. It's like, what, we're supposed to put you up on a pedestal for not killing your child? Really?

It has also become a deeply impersonal day, in which we are supposed to celebrate a generic mother, or other people's mothers, or anything but the unique relationship that we have, had, or wish we had with our own mothers (and stepmothers, grandmothers, godmothers, etc.). The "generic" mother that we are supposed to celebrate bears no relation to anyone's actual mother, nor the relationship that any of us have with our own mothers or as mothers.

Hey anon is me Fr. T. I just somehow forgot to add my name or pressed the wrong button. Could I perhaps get out of hell---at least temporarily?

Sorry again----I was only one of anonymouses (spell check that!). I was definitely the nicer of the two, the one who is coming in June to say Mass at the Chiesa Nuova on June 6 to celebrate his 25 anniversary of ordination.

I have a hard time with Mother's Day because my mother is alive. I suppose that would make me bad.

This year being Our Lady of Fatima - we celebrated the Mother of all Mothers.

Well I think I am evil too, even more than you. Do not ask why. Love from Okinawa. I am so happy you are fine after all you went through...chemo and all. Paula
