I used to be an avid cyclist until, in order to be accepted by fellow cyclists, it became necessary to wear those ridiculous race clothes as seen in the Tour. That turned bicycling from merely an inexpensive form of transportation to a ‘lifestyle’.
Oh, that, and fears of being hit by an automobile. I do live in the Land of Cars.
