Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.

Manet's cats
Artists seem to like cats.
Maybe because they sit still long enough for you to practise on them.
I think it's time I started sketching Winnie for posterity.
The internet can't last forever, and she needs to be immortalised.
Cats are dumb. They just run their little cat programmes, and it makes them look "aloof". It's just that there's really not much going on in their wee heads.
Given my cat's propensity to sit on my lap whenever we're both awake, sketching him would be tough. Ten years of being my grandfather's lap cat hath created a spoiled kitty.
Cats are pretty stupid, and I've had them in my life since I was five.
Their saving graces are their prolific breeding, toughness, and an in-spite-of-themselves charm.
The breeds are even worse in the intelligence department. I had a Himalayan given to me, and she was blind banjo player dumb. But--she was as sweet-natured as a companion animal could possibly be. Very good even to our toddlers.

I've noticed that would rather be sketched that photographed.
ReplyDeleteI love drawings of cats- they are so intelligent graceful and great beauties. That is if one does not interfere with their characters.
ReplyDeleteWe would do well to learn from them.

ReplyDeleteThey're the world's best hunters, for all that! Let that warn us all of the dangers of specialization.

I asked the village vet once what breed he thought Winnie was, and he said, "Domestic shorthair" which, he added, was a polite way to say "moggie".
