Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.
I only understood bits of the Italian; but that Messina Annunciation, Hilary, is my favourite painting. One of these days I'll get a very good print and frame it properly - which of course won't do it justice, but it'll be nice to have it around.

ReplyDeleteHe used egg tempera for the underpainting, followed by glazes of oil, each glaze with added details in egg. His paintings are amazing.
