Why I will never live in Australia
Guess who's coming to dinner? Via "Snail's Eye View" one of my favourite Natural History blogs from downunder.
Having grown up in NZ and elsewhere, I had the same attitude to venomous creatures in Oz.
But now I live next to a nature reserve and peer over my fence at kangaroos and other wildlife, and occasionally or regularly (in the case of my harmless and friendly blue tongue lizard) find them visiting my backyard - but snakes (thanks to my guardian angel) have never yet been sighted on my property!
I'm praying this protection continues...but people assure me they are in reality generally timid creatures, as anxious to avoid humans as we are to avoid them!

My dad once met a brown snake (exceptionally poisonous) while bushwalking. He said that they were equally scared, and that the snake slithered off.

look out for the box jellyfish.
