Gramophones
I've always wanted one of these things. They sell them quite regularly at Porta Portese market, for between 90 and 120 Euros. I've been meaning to save up for one.
I have a friend who is in the middle of some kind of Steampunk frenzy. She'd go nuts.

Very cool. I too have always wanted one. I did buy an old phonograph so I could play 78 rpm records. Do gramophones play 78s?
ReplyDeletethat Third Man thing was supposedly a 78. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the availability of suitable records and new needles.
ReplyDeleteI doubt needles and records would be hard to find. Have you checked ebay? Then again you are in Rome...
ReplyDeleteThe Victorians even made their utilitarian objects beautiful. I have a photo of a Gothic steam engine.
ReplyDeleteSteampunk? No, Steam Gentleman.
Mark:
ReplyDeleteExactly. That's what we've lost today, the idea that everything we make should be beautiful to the extent that it's practical. Stupid Bauhaus.
It's a copy. A fake gramaphone
ReplyDeleteA wicked, nasty copy.
Taint real!
