Am I the only one

who is still fairly freaked out by the words "Governor" and "Schwarzenegger" going together?

Is this an age-related thing? Do you have to be an old person to remember that Ahnold hasn't always been a politician?

You are not alone. As a Californian, I'm still not convinced that Ahnold has ever served in public office.

  2. Well, I might just qualify as an Old Person, and it freaks me out too.

To add to it, one of my day job projects is to help upgrade the shiny electronics that the California Highway Patrol uses...

... I don't think I'm helping to build Skynet, but there are days I wonder.

  3. It could have been worse, I suppose. It could have been Sony Bono.

Though I would have preferred Clint Eastwood.

And why didn't Chuck Heston ever go for it? I'd hvae moved there to vote for him if he had.

  4. Clint was briefly mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, an artist colony near the California mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo. The town was named after Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Sony Bono was mayor of Palm Springs and later a U.S. Representative. He was a fairly conservative Republican. I must admit that I used to watch the Sonny and Cher show on TV.

I do have a black t-shirt, which I've never worn, which has an image of Ahnold, with the text THE GOVERNATOR.

I still consider California to be my second-most-favorite place in the United States.

  5. Thankfully, they won't be going together for very much longer.

Alas, no one worth the powder to blow 'em to hell has a chance to succeed him.

It's best to focus instead on learning a new strathspey. Or drawing something interesting, as the case may be.

    Cheers,

  6. John,

whenever you can't stand California any more, read my LSN stories about Britain, and be grateful for what you've got.

I remember being shocked way back when he married Maria Shriver -as one friend put it, "OMG Ahnold is now a Kennedy!"
