I spent two years at Cambridge getting an M.Phil. in musical composition and getting my organ and choral chops in shape so I could serve the Church as a decently prepared and moderately well-informed church musician (and, yes, I'm Roman Catholic). This is what the RC churches around me are hiring. This is what the RC churches around me "want." Looks like I should have spent two weeks on guitar lessons. I'd have saved a lot of time and a lot of money. On the other hand, I'd have lost my soul in the bargain...
