You meet the nicest people at the Inquisition

Bishop Elio Sgreccia, the former head of the Pontifical Academy for Life, on the terrace on top of the Sant Uffizio.

The bishop is a charming and kindly gentleman of the old school. The sort who holds a door for someone, and would not dream of going through a door before a guest.

He spent most of his life toiling in the defence of the unborn, ill, elderly and vulnerable. He is retired now, at 80, and is happy that this allows him time to organise the Fondatione "Ut Vita Habeant", a spiritual movement to pray for the restoration of sanity in the world of medicine.

He told me that he has always wanted to devote himself to "the education of conscience".

I love this town!
