It was indeed however a rather nice story, that the English Reformation avoided the bloodshed seen on the continent because the English people rejected the excesses of the late medieval church and embraced a reformed Catholicism -- a living embodiment of the diversity in claims made by Anglicans right up to the current day.
In fact, the violently enforced reformation under Henry, Edward and Elizabeth merely postponed the bloody wars of religion to a later century. Thus we have rightly rediscovered the view that the English Civil War was not just a political struggle for parliamentary democracy, but was a deeply religious bloodbath.
It is what I have been saying for some time: the Anglican compromise between the world and the Truth, cannot hold. Their "religion" is based on a set of political lies.
