I liked and blogged this too a while ago. Nothing he's saying here is looney - standard Catholic and generally conservative-Christian stuff, very appealingly presented (before this I didn't know he had a sense of humour).
Exile? Drinking yerba mate and eating Argentine asado is hardly exile! I lived in that seminary for two years, and it was a real hoot. Except for the rats and the mold. But we got a cat and even that got better. I wonder if they have had another armed assault on the seminary recently...
