The only cat that I did name was called Alabaster. A friend had a cat named Allante. By brother's cats are named Tiger, Moe, Minette (again), and Ralph.
Even if you won't call him Jeoffry, do, do please tell him that he is of the tribe of tiger, that the dexterity of his defence is an instance of the love of God to him exceedingly, abd that if he meets another cat he must kiss her in kindness.

All our cats have Shakespearian names, but we choose them according to the cats. So the first two we ever had were identical twin brother and sister: thus, the female was Viola and the male, Sebastian. (Mind you, it was a little embarrassing standing at the back door shouting "Basti! Basti!" - like the guy who had twin bulldogs called Castor and Pollux...) Then we had a totally black (male) cat called Othello, another black female who was Olivia - and so on. Our current pair are Ferdinand and Miranda - Ferdy and Mirry for short.
It's useful having the theme, because it provides guidelines without restricting the choice too much.

An interesting coincidence: I always thought 'Fugue' would be a good name for a kitten. Okay, my world is imploding.
"Algernon"...
now we're getting somewhere. But the diminutive rule still must be considered. One simply cannot call a respectable cat "Algie".
