I was in a cab driven by a Somali man the other day. He recited his paternal ancestry for me to the 40th generation. He told me all about wedding customs in Somalia, his property holdings in Minnesota, the numerous cousins and polygamous brothers he is supporting through university, his tribe's requirements that he donate a certain amount of money to schools and hospital construction back home, and showed me pictures of his fiancee. I sat there and thought, at least I can not be a sore loser, I guess. - Karen
