Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
What about Wilhelm Furtwängler's legendary performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the 1954 Lucerne Festival with the London Philharmonia and the Lucerne Festival Choir? Otto Klemperer (who had converted to Catholicism, but eventually returned to Judaism) is palpably superior to Herbert von Karajan (who sold his soul to the Nazis).
Ok, I'll give you Klemperer...
I'm a little more tolerant, but I draw the line well before L. Bernstein gets a mention.Pax et bonum,Keith Töpfer
